Starting June 2025, Xfinity has been inviting comcast.net accounts to upgrade onto Yahoo Mail, rolling through 2026. If you accept, the address stays @comcast.net. The inbox becomes Yahoo Mail. You will not keep using Xfinity webmail after you accept Yahoo's terms.
Official invitations come from xfinity@updates.xfinity.com. You accept at connect.xfinity.com. Anything that demands your password in the body of an email is not the upgrade. It is a phish.
The address can stay Comcast. Once you accept, the product is Yahoo.
Do I have to upgrade Comcast email to Yahoo?
No, not on Xfinity's current public wording. This is an invitation, not a forced cutover with a published kill date. An account counts as active if it has been signed in within about two years — those are the ones being offered the upgrade. If you decline, you keep using Xfinity Email at connect.xfinity.com until that policy changes. If you already live in Gmail or Outlook, you can skip Yahoo entirely and migrate from Xfinity IMAP / POP before you ever accept Yahoo's terms.
What stays the same, what changes
Stays, if you accept: @comcast.net, most messages, most folders, and up to 10,000 contacts.
Changes: You sign in at mail.yahoo.com. Xfinity webmail is gone for that mailbox. Filters and forwarding do not move — Xfinity says forwarding stops when you upgrade, and you must rebuild it in Yahoo. Attachments over 25 MB stay behind in an Xfinity folder with 30 days to download. More than 4,100 folders get consolidated. Should I keep Comcast-on-Yahoo or leave?
Keep the address if it is on every utility. Do not make Yahoo the desk you sit at. Yahoo Mail is another chronological inbox with ads and a 20 GB cap — the same pile you are already tired of, on a new website. Gmail and Outlook are the landing spots. Faraday does not connect to Yahoo or leftover Xfinity IMAP. Provider first, then Faraday, so the move is not just a new logo on the same overload: Faraday classifies humans, bills, and bookings on the Gmail or Outlook account you land on. If you still have Xfinity Email, migrate from there before you accept Yahoo — you skip the Yahoo hop and you do not lose forwarding on the way through.
How to move Comcast / Yahoo mail to Gmail
If the mailbox is already on Yahoo: use Gmail's import and POP fetch the way we describe for Yahoo. App password, leave a copy on the server, 90-day overlap. Does Faraday work with Comcast or Xfinity email?
Not directly. Faraday is a Gmail and Outlook client, not an Xfinity or Yahoo host. Move the daily inbox to Gmail or Outlook, keep @comcast.net forwarding or fetching until recoveries are updated, then sign in to Faraday with that new provider.
The extra step is the point. Xfinity Email and Yahoo Mail will not separate a human from a Comcast bill from a newsletter. They give you a list — Yahoo's with ads and a 20 GB cap. Is Comcast getting rid of email?
Xfinity is not deleting @comcast.net. It is offering active accounts a move onto Yahoo Mail. The address survives either path.
Will I lose my comcast.net address?
Not if you complete the official upgrade, and not if you stay on Xfinity Email. Scam mail that says otherwise is trying to steal the account.
Can I transfer Comcast email to Gmail?
Yes. Import / POP from Xfinity or from Yahoo into Gmail, then update senders. Then connect Faraday to that Gmail so the archive you just moved is classified instead of dumped into Primary.
Is Xfinity email the same as Yahoo Mail?
Only after you accept the upgrade. Until then it is Xfinity Email at connect.xfinity.com. After you accept, it is Yahoo Mail with a comcast.net address.
What about Verizon or Juno?
