Faraday for Mac is here ✨
Your wish has been our command.
Faraday is now also a native Mac app!
Not a wrapped browser tab, not an Electron shell, and certainly not another resource-hungry Chrome bundle. Faraday for Mac is 100% native – living in your Applications folder, integrating seamlessly with macOS, and delivering the experience you expect.
And it’s only 10 MB to download. Yes, ten. That makes it literally an order of magnitude smaller than most other desktop email clients (150–400 MB is typical for most desktop email apps). We cared about efficiency down to the binary, so you can install and update almost instantly — no bloat, no lag.
Why Tauri (not Electron) makes all the difference
Most desktop email clients use Electron, which includes a bundled Chromium engine and Node.js. That means each app ships with its own full copy of Chrome — leading to huge file sizes (100 MB+), high memory usage, and slow cold startups.
Faraday is built on Tauri: a modern framework that uses the native macOS WebView (WebKit under the hood), so it leverages system libraries and keeps both the binary size and memory footprint lightweight. There’s no embedded browser engine — just streamlined Rust/Cocoa code wrapping your inbox.
Launches in under 2 seconds — no splash screens, no lag, no waiting around.
Consistently uses 75% less memory than Electron apps — check Activity Monitor and see for yourself. Faraday uses lesser RAM than Apple Notes 🙂
Battery-life friendly: Minimal background CPU and I/O; fan/CPU spikes are gone.
Smallest download size in class: The full install is just 12 MB.
This was a technical challenge — tight Rust code, minimal dependencies, and heavy use of macOS APIs — but the payoff is clear the first time you install or open it.
Every Faraday feature — natively engineered for Mac
Everything you expect is here: AI inbox organization, smart categorization, thread layering, daily Glance, follow-up detection, high-speed search, and settings. All of it runs as a proper macOS app, with:
macOS-native notifications — respects your Focus and Do Not Disturb, shown as true system alerts (not ephemeral browser toasts).
Full file integration — Downloads save straight to your Downloads folder; attachments open in the expected default app with a single click.
Menu bar support & global shortcuts — Compose, sync, and search from the Mac menu, with ⌘N, C, /, and more. Keyboard workflows behave like you've always wanted.
Default mail client — All mailto: links open instantly in Faraday, anywhere on your Mac.
Seamless auto-updates — Update in the background, never touch an installer again.
Multiple accounts, multiple windows — Open each inbox in its own native window for real multitasking.
And, thanks to the tiny binary, it won’t slow down Time Machine, fill your SSD, or clutter your app management.
